GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Mental Illnesses are among the most debilitating and widespread disabilities worldwide. Despite this, there has never been an electronic tool available for diagnosing the full range of psychiatric illnesses.

A computerized version of a standardized psychiatric interview, that is widely used in the United States (SCID, Structured Clinical Interview for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV Axis I Disorders), has been developed and implemented in this current software. This novel, platform-independent software is based on Java, Java Enterprise Beans and Oracle to assure the consistency of the data derived from the questionnaire. The collected interviews can be administered by a web tool that has been developed based on the Struts-framework using Java Server Pages and Servlets.

This software was developed by Michael Maurer and Jürgen Hartler in cooperation with National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA.

The eSCID web application can be found here.
